State is changing Manure Storage Design Standard If you’ve ever complained about how a manure pit is built or designed, now is your chance to change it. The SOC (Standards and Oversights Council) is planning to make minor revisions to the design standard for manure storage (313). Possible areas for changes include: Number of agitation points Setback from pit rim to nearest building Width of ramps/agitation pads If you have suggestions, please use the enclosed gold form. All applicator suggestions will be compiled into one document, but you are welcome to contact the committee directly as well at the number provided on the form. Expo Details: Your chance to shine and showcase your equipment Enclosed is the brochure for the PNAAW Expo Aug 19-20. Any PNAAW member who wants a 25 by 75 ft lot to display their equipment to potential customers on the 20th should contact Kevin Erb at 920.391.4652 by August 14. Several lots are available at no charge on a first come, first serve basis, but reservations are mandatory. You must also contact Kevin if you are interested in demoing your equipment in the field. If you want to have table space in the tent to display information about your business, contact Kevin August 14. This is for members only. Spill Response Training at Expo Do your employees know what to do in the event of a spill? PNAAW, DNR, and UW Extension will showcase spill response techniques on both days of the Expo. While both days will detail general spill response techniques, the 19th will focus on hose break/large spill strategies and the 20th on tanker releases/off-field movement. This will be the only opportunity this year to receive hands-on spill response training Continued on back page Expo Details: Schedule August 18: Informal Applicator Gathering. Join applicators from WI, IA, MN, IL, MI and Canada for dinner and discussion. 7 pm, Green Acres Supper Club, Sauk City. August 20: Farmer Day For your potential customers. Applicators from across WI will demonstrate the best in-use technologies to minimize odor, runoff and neighbor concerns. All demos from day one repeated (except pit pumping/agitation/robotic dredge). Applicator displays and demos are limited to full PNAAW members. (see “your chance to shine” on previous page.) Certification Kicks off at Expo The PNAAW voluntary certification program will kick off at the expo with both classroom and spill response training for the pilot group. The 11 WI firms join two from Illinois and two from Michigan in piloting this voluntary program. Participating companies are eligible to apply for discounts of 10% to 20% off their vehicle liability insurance premiums and up to 50% off the manure spill liability insurance offered by several different companies.
