Institute of Community and Civic Engagement Faculty Community Service Learning (CSL) Proposal Community Service Learning is an academic study linked to community service through structured reflection so that each reinforces the other. The community service may address a variety of community needs, community outreach and education, research or policy analysis. Criteria for developing a community service learning course: The course requires the engagement of students in community service learning activities or projects with external community organizations responsive to the needs of the community they interact with. The course must include academic topics that directly address the projects or services activities of the students. The course requires student reflection on the dynamics of the course content concepts and the community based activity. Instructions: I. Please attach a draft syllabus II. Please give a one page response to the following: A. Describe the proposed community service learning assignment B. Describe how this proposed activity related to the rest of the course material C. Explain how you will prepare the students for their service placement D. Explain how learning from service will be evaluated. III.
