GUIDELINES FOR FIRST PAPER – Article Summary
MATH 450
Due Tuesday, January 22, 2012
1. Choose a partner with whom to work.
2. Choose an article from The American Mathematical Monthly, Mathematics Magazine,
or The College Mathematics Journal. These are available through the Bellarmine library.
3. Write a typed summary of the article.
4. Prepare a PowerPoint presentation to give to the class.
Here are some guidelines as you work on this paper.
The paper (75 points)
a. The mathematics is clearly explained.
b. The mathematical notation is used accurately.
c. The paper is well organized, with a clear introduction and conclusion.
d. The paper uses correct grammar and spelling.
e. The paper is 3 to 4 pages long, double-spaced, 12 pt. font.
f. Two copies are submitted.
g. A copy of the original article is attached to one copy of the paper.
The presentation (25 points)
a. The presentation relates the topic to the audience.
b. The speakers are clear and make eye contact with the audience.
c. The presentation has a clear introduction and conclusion.
d. The presentation is 6 – 8 minutes long.
e. Both partners are involved.
