Faculty Honors and Awards: Dr. Godfrey Gumbs, a Professor of Physics at Hunter College, has received two honors from the American Physical Society, the main professional organization in physics. He is the recipient of the Society’s 2005 Edward A. Bouchet Award. This award recognizes a distinguished minority physicist who has made significant contributions to physics research. Dr. Gumbs has also been named a Fellow of the Society. This honor is limited to one-half of one percent of the Society’s membership. Dr. Tina Howe, a Professor of Theatre at Hunter College, has been selected as the 2005 William Inge Theatre Festival’s Honoree for Distinguished Achievement in the American Theatre. Every year, the Festival honors a playwright whose body of work has had a profound impact on the American Theatre. Dr. Howe is only the second woman to receive this coveted award. Dr. Mark Hillery, a Professor of Physics at Hunter College, has been named a Fellow of the Optical Society of America, the national society of professionals in optics and photonics. This honor is limited to ten percent of the Society’s membership. Student Honors and Awards: Riki Drori, a graduate of Hunter College, received a 2004 Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Graduate Scholarship to support her studies for an MBA in France at INSEAD, one of the world’s top-tier business schools. This highly competitive scholarship provides funding of up to fifty thousand dollars per year for the length of the recipient’s graduate degree program of up to six years. I am extremely proud of the awards and honors achieved by Hunter’s faculty and students.
