DEPARTMENT OF THE AIR FORCE
AIR FORCE RESERVE OFFICER TRAINING CORPS (AETC)
465TH CADET WING, UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA-LINCOLN
27 Jun 16
Dear Prospective Cadet,
I hope you are enjoying your summer break! However, it is time to start thinking about the fall
semester and your future. You are at a critical part in your life right now; the decisions you make have an
enormous impact upon the course of your future! Your decision to join our team at Detachment 465 at
UNL is one of the smartest decisions you will ever make.
As a new cadet joining our team, you will represent the United States Air Force in the Lincoln
community and on the UNL campus. High standards of conduct, both social and military, will be
expected of you. Air Force ROTC will provide you with many mental and physical challenges along with
a team to help you learn and face these challenges. Overcoming these challenges will further define your
character while strengthening your confidence and leadership ability. As an Air Force officer, your
decisions can have a far reaching impact on others’ lives. Through your time at UNL you will learn to be
both a leader and a member of a highly skilled team.
Your journey begins at New Cadet Orientation (NCO). NCO is a program designed to help you orient
with the campus and our program, and to provide you with the opportunity to meet new friends. NCO
will begin Thursday, August 18th, at 7:00 PM and continue the next day Friday, August 19th at 8:00
AM until late afternoon.
During NCO, upperclassmen cadets will address several topics, including drill and ceremonies,
customs and courtesies, extracurricular activities, and physical fitness. In addition, we will also be
completing preliminary paperwork. I want to stress that the environment over the course of these two
days is relaxed and casual. Many assume a high-pressure atmoshere but that is simply not the case. To
ensure your in-processing goes as quickly as possible we ask that you complete and bring the attached
Sports Physical Form and Questionnaire to NCO, and also ensure that you bring all of the items on the
enclosed list with you.
New Cadet Orientation is an invaluable resource to your success at Detachment 465. The essentials
needed for success in the Air Force ROTC program will be covered over these two days. There is no
obligation or commitment to the Air Force by attending NCO. I hope you enjoy your summer break and
I look forward to meeting you in the fall! If you have any questions feel free to contact me at
465imtsqcc@gmail.com.
