授課目標
This is an English course mainly designed for international students who just arrive in Taiwan and are
about to start their studies at the university. The course will be conducted in English only. To help the
students understand the customs in Taiwan and ease them into local college life, texts with prompts of
reading strategies and knowledge about Taiwan will be discussed in class. In addition, international students
who have been in Taiwan for sometime but would like to improve their English proficiency are also
welcome to take the course.

With the knowledge and skills learned in class, students are expected to have more in-depth understanding
of Taiwanese culture and customs for them to adjust to their daily life in Taiwan. Also, students will be
equipped with general knowledge and skills required to read English texts assigned in their courses and
express their ideas in English better.

課程要求（學生於學期間應達成之學習成就、作業、考試等）
Students are expected to read the materials assigned beforehand, actively participate in class discussions,
and review the materials after the lecture. If a student misses 1/3 of the classes in the semester, he or she
will not be able to take the midterm or the final exam.
成績評量方式
Class participation (including attendance and in-class activities) 20%; Assignments 20%; Presentation
(content 10%+ delivery 10%) 20%; Midterm exam 20%; Final exam 20%
備註
Students need to team up with one or two students from his/her country and give a presentation introducing their country.
The content of the presentation should include important and interesting facts/customs about their country. Use of visual
aids is strongly recommended. A written report needs to be turned in on the day of presentation.
