1. Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the
university. Attach an organizational chart with positions, ranges, and names for the division
which reflects the position in it as well as those supervised in the department. (This section is
used for advertisement of the position.)
The Senior Associate Athletics Director for Internal Operations plans, develops, and implements
department policies and goals for the facility and operations and event management units in
accordance with the Intercollegiate Athletics (ICA) department objectives and recognized best
practices. The Senior Associate Athletic Director reports to the Special Assistant to the
President/Director, Athletics and is responsible for a team of full time, part time and student
employees. The incumbent oversees all of the ICA master facility planning and management
functions to include capital projects. The incumbent oversees the on-going planning and
administration of game-day and event management operations ensuring that events are successfully
produced and master event calendars are effectively communicated and maintained. The incumbent
has oversight and management of specific assigned sports programs and other departments within
ICA.

40% - Capital Projects, Improvements and Facilities Management
 In cooperation with University administration and Facilities Department personnel, lead
facilities master planning for ICA
 In partnership with Facilities Department personnel, supervise all capital and remodeling
projects related to ICA
 Develop, implement and manage capital improvement project and maintenance plan which is
updated, prioritized and estimated on a regular basis
 Supervise, plan, and coordinate the efforts of a variety of service providers in meeting the
physical needs of the Athletics department
 Manage existing athletics facilities and ensure proper maintenance is taking place to protect
physical asset
Develop, implement, maintain and communicate calendars for all sport facilities, university and
commercial events
30% - Sports and Lawlor Events Center Administration
 Superintend game day management services for athletic events
 Oversee event management services related to commercial client usage
 Oversee games management budgets for all events, daily operations, and other associated
activities
 Oversee all ICA sports camps included administration of camps with Extended Studies
department; coordinate facility usage and other camp needs
 Manage post-season travel
 Oversee assigned sports programs
 Ensure compliance with NCAA, Conference, and university rules and regulations (subject to
disciplinary or corrective action as set forth in the provisions of the NCAA enforcement
procedures)
 Attend as many contests as possible to show support for the student-athletes and coaching
staff

15% - ICA Liaison
 Serve as liaison with Campus Police regarding all departmental matters including security for
all home contests
 Serve as liaison to Campus Emergency Management Team
 Serve as contract administrator for ICA food and beverage contract coupled with exclusive
UNR soft drink agreement
 Serve as liaison with Facilities, Parking, IT departments related to ICA event and facility
plans/needs
15% - Supervision
 Manage, direct and evaluate assigned athletic coaches and other direct reports
3. Describe the level of freedom to take action and make decisions with or without
supervision and how the results of the work performed impact the department, division and/or
the university as a whole.
Level of Freedom:
This position has the freedom to make independent decisions at almost every level without consulting
the Athletic Director. This position is critical to the smooth functioning of the ICA Department. Athletic
events must operate in compliance with National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) rules and
regulations to avoid individual or team violations. Facilities management and well-coordinated sports
events are key components in drawing top athletic talent to the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR).
The quality and management of ICA facilities also draw considerable financial support from the
community through fan participation and contributions from donors.
Impact:
This position is of major importance to the continued financial support success of the University’s
athletic programs. The judgments and decisions made by this position directly reflect upon the image
and success of UNR’s sport programs and the reputation of the university.
