ADMINISTRATIVE FACULTY JOB DESCRIPTION APPROVED POSITION INFORMATION (to be completed by HR) Effective: 2/1/2015 Title Project Director, Volunteer Programs (SCA) Essential Function: Sedentary Work Range 3 JCC 86894 PCN 16126 Description: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. 1. The Project Director, Volunteer Programs, reports to the Associate Director of Community and Social Services of the Sanford Center for Aging (SCA) at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR). Volunteer programs include various SCA programs including the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) which is a community outreach project funded by grants from the National Corporation for Community Service, the Nevada Division for Aging Services, and other organizations. The Project Director develops and implements services as described in the grant objectives which are to provide community members an opportunity to support various community agencies and affords an applied setting for demonstration projects related to volunteerism and healthy aging. The Project Director develops innovative programs that build on civic engagement; administers programmatic aspects; ensures completion of all grant-related objectives; develops and monitors budgets and works closely with the SCA staff and the RSVP Advisory Council to direct and oversee yearly fund development activities; and works closely with SCA faculty and staff to develop innovative demonstration projects and provide students with field experiences. 2. If line of progression, define for each range as above. 55% - Community Outreach Cultivate current and develop new relationships with community agency directors, service providers, volunteers, and potential funders Develop relationships with diverse, underrepresented groups within the community to expand volunteer opportunities to these populations Develop volunteer opportunities in community service organizations Organize and lead RSVP Advisory Council meetings, and use them as a sounding board for new concepts, continuous program improvement, and feedback on performance Develop additional resources for program expansion, including but not limited to volunteer stations, volunteers, partners and funders 15% - Project Administration Oversee RSVP and other volunteer program functions including account review, human resources, program development, grantee relations, project development and implementation, and compliance with all applicable reporting requirements of the funding agencies and disseminate the results to appropriate office Ensure compliance with grant objectives and timelines, including timely submission of required reports, documentation, and electronic entry of volunteer services and/or client services Develop, monitor and manage the program’s annual budget, ensuring all targets are met/exceeded Ensure that volunteers are appropriately matched to their assignments, trained, and prepared and then placed in community service positions Ensure that volunteers are appropriately recognized Oversee preparation and distribution of project related marketing material, program announcements, community events, and dissemination of results 10% - Sanford Center for Aging Projects/Activities Participate in SCA activities including, but not limited to, regular faculty/staff meetings, standing meetings with the SCA Director, and contribute to ongoing marketing efforts by providing reports on volunteer activities Collaborate with university personnel, students, and faculty in the promotion of the SCA volunteer programs and demonstration projects Participate in strategic planning, proposal writing, and fund raising activities in support of SCA programming 10 % - Proposal and Demonstration Project Development Develop annual federal, state, or foundation grant proposals and demonstration projects that contribute to the SCA and RSVP mission 10% - Human Resources Supervision/Management Supervise RSVP support staff to include: recruiting, interviewing, hiring, establishing work performance standards, managing, training, and evaluating Supervise project and office classified staff and volunteers Initiate and handle recruitment for vacant classified staff positions and assists with training for new employees 3. Describe the types of decisions the position(s) make independently as part of the core responsibilities. If a line of progression, describe the decisions made at the highest level. The Project Director is given authority to make independent decisions and judgments in completing the daily job responsibilities of the position, i.e., training and scheduling volunteers in their outreach and interaction with elders, communicating with and coordinating activities with community agencies, health care professionals, SCA, elders, and their families, and increasing outreach and communicating program awareness to the community. The Project Director is responsible for developing and writing requests for proposals to continue the successful funding of the program. Decisions as to which agencies should be asked for funding for the program as well as developing the budgets for each proposal submitted and managing budgets for grants received, fall on this position. Because of the position’s extensive interaction with volunteers, elders, agency personnel, and funders, decisions, both good and bad, are immediately visible to the community and felt by its clients in the care received. Poor judgment in carrying out these activities negatively impacts the reputation of SCA and the University and could jeopardize future program funding and program success. 4. Describe the types of problems, issues, action, communications this position typically takes to the supervisor for resolution and/or consultation. If a line of progression, describe the supervisory consultation at the highest level. More complex issues or problems that arise with clients’ care and which affect the outcomes or success of the program’s mission are discussed with the Director of SCA before taking action. If there are changes needed to the overall program implementation, these actions would also be discussed with the Director. A final review of all funding requests will be done and approved by the Director before submittal. 5.
