Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the university. The Project Director, Statewide Indoor Radon Education Program for the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension (UNCE) is responsible for managing the radon education and awareness program in the State of Nevada. The scope of the program includes overall project management of the radon education programs offered and acting as the liaison with local, state, and federal agencies engaged in radon research and mitigation activities. The position reports to the Area Director for the Western Area Extension, Cooperative Extension, at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) . 2. Describe the level of freedom to take action and make decisions with or without supervision and how the results of the work performed impact the department, division and/or the university as a whole. This position functions under the general oversight of the Area Director and must exercise discretion and judgment when making decisions. The incumbent works independently to manage the educational activities required under the existing indoor radon grant and any further funding which is secured for this outreach program. The impact of this program is that it educate individuals in radon to impact the saving of lives. Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States. Radon-induced lung cancer kills more people annually than drunk drivers and exceeds the death toll of breast cancer, colorectal cancer, and prostate cancer combined. Despite this the public is largely unaware of the risk of radon exposure. A well-managed indoor radon education program can significantly reduce the risk factor and save lives. If the responsibilities of this position are effectively discharged, the University and UNCE will have achieved increased credibility. 4.
