1. Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the
university. Attach an organizational chart with positions, ranges, and names for the division
which reflects the position in it as well as those supervised in the department. (This section is
used for advertisement of the position.)
The Manager, Advising, Recruitment and Retention in the Education Advisement Center is
responsible for the advisement, recruitment, and retention efforts for students aiming for teacher
licensure programs in the College of Education (COE). The Manager is responsible for the over-all
management of the Center including the supervision of its employees. The Manager is responsible
for carrying out the mission of the Center, which is to provide teacher education students with clear,
current, and accurate information regarding all pre-service teacher education programs from
recruitment through graduation. This includes identifying and contacting prospective students in
conjunction with the Office for Prospective Students (OSP), the Transfer Coordinator, and the General
Advising Center for Undecided Students. The Manager reports to the Associate Dean in COE.
2. List the major responsibilities, including percentage of time devoted to each. Provide
enough detail to enable a person outside the department to understand the job (percentage

30% - Program Administration
 Direct preparation and maintenance of student records and databases
 Prepare annual budget for the Center and its share of the recruitment funds; oversee the
management of the budget of the Center
 Process acceptance of applications for program admission to teacher education and
graduation application process
 Determine probationary status and monitor and maintain records of progress of students
 Provide insights and reports to faculty and college administration as needed
 Conduct graduation audits and coordinate with faculty to resolve issues regarding readiness to
graduate or enter internship; report results to Associate Dean
25% - Student Advisement
 Advise prospective students, students who are pre-majors, and teacher education
undergraduate majors in COE (approximately 350 majors and 1000 students)
 Make decisions about and implement student transfers and/or waivers of courses according to
faculty guidelines in order to ease student enrollment and to provide a smooth transition for
transfer students
20% - Recruitment and Retention
 Direct and assist with recruitment efforts
 Direct, conduct, and monitor retention efforts
 Report results of recruitment and retention efforts to the Associate Dean, the Target 500
Committee, and the Academic Advising Advisory Board (AAAB)
20% - Supervision
 Train, supervise, and evaluate classified staff, student workers, and graduate assistant
advisors
 Supervise Graduate Assistants teaching the EDU 110-111 courses
5% - Scholarship Awards
 Coordinate scholarship award process for undergraduate education students, including
chairing the committee
 Act as liaison with the UNR Scholarship Coordinator
 Oversee the student notification process

3. Describe the level of freedom to take action and make decisions with or without
supervision and how the results of the work performed impact the department, division and/or
the university as a whole.
Level of Freedom:
The Manager is expected to exercise considerable professional judgment and take initiative in
collaborating with faculty on issues impacting student advising, recruitment, and retention. The
Manager interprets faculty decisions concerning program requirements and course sequences, and
must work with faculty members in imparting correct and current information and advice to students.
Impact:
The decisions and judgments made by the Manager have a direct impact on the students through
advice given them. Improper decisions and advice could lead to students being delayed in graduation
or taking unnecessary courses. Sound decisions and judgments have a positive effect on students,
the faculty, the programs and departments, the college, and the university as a whole.
