Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the university. Attach an organizational chart with positions, ranges, and names for the division which reflects the position in it as well as those supervised in the department. The University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) men’s basketball program is an extension of the university and must reflect integrity while staying within the parameters of the university mission. The Head Coach must have a complete working knowledge of the game and must provide the organization and motivation for a functional program. The incumbent has fiscal responsibility for the men’s basketball program. The Head Coach must implement a philosophy that addresses ethical behavior and the welfare and academic success of the student-athletes and must develop an atmosphere that addresses the standards of excellence. The Head Coach is responsible for hiring assistants who have ethical values and the ability to develop skills in student-athletes and he/she must develop a recruiting network for the purpose of effective recruitment of prospective student-athletes. The Head Coach must provide responsible leadership and a clear vision for achieving and communicating that success. 2. List the major responsibilities, including percentage of time devoted to each. Level of Freedom: Athletics is one of the most visible programs on the UNR campus. Incumbent must be flexible, take initiative, and work independently with little direct supervision and with considerable latitude for initiative and independent judgment. Impact: The decisions and judgments made by the Head Coach for men’s basketball and the results of work performed have a major impact on the athletic department, university, and conference. It is essential that the integrity of Wolf Pack Athletics is maintained. Because of this high visibility, the department requires solid judgment and decision-making skills from its head men’s basketball coach. Team success, academic eligibility, and student-athletes’ progress toward their degrees are necessities. In addition, it is important that the individual run the men’s basketball program in compliance with National Conference Athletics Association (NCAA) and conference rules and regulations. Retention and graduation of our student-athletes on campus is critical to the future of Wolf Pack Athletics and UNR. 4.
