1. Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the
university. Attach an organizational chart with positions, ranges, and names for the division
which reflects the position in it as well as those supervised in the department. (This section is
used for advertisement of the position.)
The Director, Special Events for Intercollegiate Athletics (ICA), is a mid-level position with oversight
responsibility for all special events fundraising activities to generate external revenue within ICA while
also being directly responsible for the athletic program's major events. The individual reports to the
Associate Athletics Director, External Operations.
This position also oversees the spirit program and reports to the Assistant Athletics Director,
Marketing and Promotions.
2. List the major responsibilities, including percentage of time devoted to each. Provide
enough detail to enable a person outside the department to understand the job (percentage
first with heading and then bulleted information).
65% - Event Planning
 Establish and implement assigned Wolf Pack Athletics special events, including sport-specific
events as assigned
 Plan and execute signature Wolf Pack fundraising events, Blue Tie Ball and the Governor’s
Dinner
 Maintain and develop relationships with existing and potential event sponsors and vendors to
maximize revenue generation from assigned special events
 Collaborate with Wolf Pack marketing and outside marketing firms to create awareness
campaigns for events through collateral material development, direct mail, and social,
electronic and print media
 Create and manage event volunteer structure
 Prepare and track strategic plans, timelines and budgets for assigned special events
 Work closely with Athletics accounting staff to ensure accurate billing and deposit activity
 Meet established net revenue goals for assigned events
 Support development staff in other departmental ventures as requested.
30% - Head Cheer, Stunt and Mascot Coach
 Coach and instruct all cheerleaders, stunt and mascots
 Organize and monitor all practices, games and events
 Order uniforms, costumes and ancillary equipment
 Create routines that will entertain in a positive manner to solicit fan support
5% - NCAA Regulation Compliance
 Ensure compliance with NCAA, Conference, and university rules and regulations (subject to
disciplinary or corrective action as set forth in the provisions of the NCAA enforcement
procedures)
 Monitor academic performance of students and enforce rules for the program in coordination
with Wolf Pack Academics and Compliance offices.

3. Describe the level of freedom to take action and make decisions with or without
supervision and how the results of the work performed impact the department, division and/or
the university as a whole.
Level of Freedom:
This position is very visible to the public, potential donors and donors and therefore has a direct
impact on the perception of the university and potential fundraising. The individual is responsible for a
major portion of the department’s fundraising activity which funds the operating budget of the AAUN.
Impact:
Poor decisions and judgments made by this position have a direct impact on the operation of the
Athletic Association and Athletics Department in that if the funds are not raised, the operating fund is
diminished.
