Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the university. The Director, Equal Opportunity and Title IX, is responsible for University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) EEO Training and Compliance under Titles I-IX. This includes but is not limited to sexual harassment and/or discrimination complaint investigations, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accommodation requests, and inquiries regarding discrimination and/or sexual harassment. Training is mandated on these topics and is important to limiting the adverse impact of sexual harassment and discrimination. The training is developed, monitored, maintained, and conducted by the Director. Additionally, the Director supervises the activities of the Office of Equal Opportunity and Title IX staff and attends diversity committee meetings when requested. The Director reports to the Vice Provost and Secretary of the University. 2. List the major responsibilities, including percentage of time devoted to each. The incumbent collaborates with Business Center North (BCN) and Faculty Human Resources offices and General Counsel to achieve resolution of problems and make decisions on the following: whether sexual harassment or discrimination has occurred, ADA accommodation requests, and whether departments need departmental-specific training. The Vice Provost is consulted in cases warranting disciplinary action and apprised of discrimination or harassment incidents and involved in establishing goals. Impact: The decisions and judgments made by the Director impact the University and are critical to ensuring that UNR is compliant with Federal and state rules and regulations. A lack of accessible training and/or monitoring training compliance increases the University’s exposure to sexual harassment and/or discrimination. The Director provides sound professional direction and leadership in promoting and maintaining the University’s goals of a positive campus climate free from harassment and discrimination which enhances the reputation of UNR and NSHE.
