Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the university. (This section is used for advertisement of the position.) The Coordinator, Washoe 4-H Youth Development Programs, plans, implements, and evaluates the Washoe County 4-H Youth Development Program. The position provides direct management of the 4-H Club Program; 4-H Military Program; Youth in Governance; Youth/Adult Partnership programming, as well as day-to-day operations. The incumbent directly coordinates the annual Western Area 4-H Camp to include annual self-supporting budget, hiring and supervising camp staff, coordinating annual contract for camp use, and overall logistics for the camp experience. The position recruits, screens, trains, and supervises 4-H program volunteers and student interns. The position develops educational programming for youth and/or adults utilizing current curricula and facilitates interagency cooperation to further youth development programs that are inclusive and available to all youth who wish to participate. 2. Provide enough detail to enable a person outside the department to understand the job (percentage first with heading and then bulleted information). 65% - 4-H Youth Development Program Plan, implement, and evaluate the 4-H Youth Development Program in Washoe County. Major responsibilities include coordination of 4-H Clubs, 4-H Military, Youth Governance, and Youth/Adult Partnership programming in Washoe County and the Western Area 4-H Youth Development camp. Develop a written Program Plan with input from staff, volunteers and youth to implement 4-H Youth Development (4-H YD) program for Washoe County. Recruit, screen, train and supervise volunteers to deliver the 4-H YD Program in Washoe County Seek and obtain grant funding for 4-H YD programs and activities and manage grant funds and create and file necessary financial reports and documentation Coordinate and work with Area 4-H YD Team to write and distribute monthly newsletters to all participating families and with a Washoe County team to plan implement and evaluate all 4-H YD programs in Washoe County Recruit youth for 4-H YD programs; create and disseminate brochures, fliers and other marketing pieces to current and potential audiences Evaluate, select, and modify where needed, the appropriate curricula for youth and adults, 4-H YD members or other youth serving agencies Work as a team member for regional training programs for 4-H YD Professionals, Youth development professionals, and volunteers Represent UNCE in collaboration with local, area, regional and national agencies and partners to create a youth centered environment for 4-H YD Monitor and ensure compliance with federal and state civil rights requirements. Ensure that the 4-H YD Expansion and Review Advisory Committee has minority representation (comparable to Washoe County census data), geographical representation, and ensure that approximately one-third of its members are youth. Design and implement a plan for the increased participation of minorities and underrepresented audiences in 4-H YD programs. Draft and disseminate a written report regarding the “State of 4-H YD in Washoe County” as it pertains to reaching underrepresented audiences and minorities. Recruit and mentor student interns Develop a plan for integrating University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) student recruitment into 4-H YD programming 20% - Supervision and Training Provide overall leadership and supervision of 4-H YD program staff, support staff and student interns. Train, supervise, and evaluate 4-H YD program staff, support staff, and program volunteers. Incumbent must demonstrate independent judgment to work within established standards. 4-H Youth Development is the most wellknown and visible Cooperative Extension educational program that serves more than 10,000 youth in Washoe County annually. Planning, implementation, evaluation, and coordination of the 4-H youth development programs requires daily independent determinations and judgments to ensure program integrity and participant safety. Recruiting, screening, and training of program staff and volunteers require high-level judgment in order to facilitate appropriate choices for the overall program. Training and supervision of direct reporting staff is complex and carries a high level of responsibility. The incumbent must demonstrate the ability to make high level judgments, choices, and determinations that are in line with UNCE policy without the direct involvement of supervision.
