1. Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the
university. Attach an organizational chart with positions, ranges, and names for the division
which reflects the position in it as well as those supervised in the department. (This section is
used for advertisement of the position.)
The Coordinator, Veterans Services, provides direct service to students receiving education benefits
under the G.I. Bill to ensure compliance with all G.I. Bill rules and regulations including the certification
of student progress toward degree attainment. The incumbent is responsible for the accuracy and
effectiveness of all front line communications to Veterans and serves as the direct liaison to the
university Cashier’s office with regard to Veteran’s Administration (VA) payment processing. The
position reports to the Director, Veterans Services.
2. List the major responsibilities, including percentage of time devoted to each. Provide

80% - Veterans Administration (VA) Education Benefit Program Assistance
 Prepares enrollment and compliance reports under the direction of Veterans Services
Director for the Department of Veterans Affairs regarding veteran student enrollment status
and education benefit eligibility
 Certifies class enrollments and maintains database of GI Bill, VA and university class
enrollment records
 Serves as a university liaison to the Department of Veterans Affairs in student certification
process
 Assists in design and implementation of programming intended to educate and raise
awareness of veteran-related matters on campus
 Coordinates student referral to campus or community support services
 Monitors progress of individual students toward degree attainment
 Assists with communication to campus and community veteran-related offices to enhance
programs for students
20% - Supervision
 Assists Director in the day-to-day management of VA Student Worker productivity and
compliance
 Supervises temporary employees and student workers
3. Describe the level of freedom to take action and make decisions with or without
supervision and how the results of the work performed impact the department, division and/or
the university as a whole.
Level of Freedom:
The Coordinator makes decisions regarding properly certifying student course schedules for the
receipt of Veterans education benefits. The Coordinator certifies progress toward degree. More
complex issues are discussed with the supervisor for resolution.
Impact:
Improper certification results in the loss of the Veterans benefits program to the institution. As these
benefits are a form of federal financial aid, inaccuracies in certification and eligibility could result in the
loss of all federal funds to the institution. Inaccuracies in the interpretation of Degree Audit Reports
and satisfactory academic progress may result in increased time to degree for students.
