Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the university. The Coordinator, Campus Recreation and Wellness (CRW) Fitness, is directly responsible for the administration and development of fitness programming and assisting with facility management. This includes program planning, personnel management, staff development and evaluation. The postion recruits, hires, trains, supervises and evaluates fitness program instructors and academic course instructors and student staff. The Coordinator assists the CRW professional staff with student worker trainings, facility supervision, and with the staffing of special fitness events. The position develops and implements program assessment tools for all Fitness Programs and group training programs. The position is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and cleanliness of fitness equipment and facilities. The Coordinator reports to the Director, CRW and works closely with the Coordinator, CRW Programming, to develop marketing material to promote fitness programs and special events to the campus community. 2. Provide enough detail to enable a person outside the department to understand the job (percentage first with heading and then bulleted information). 30% - Manage Fitness Instruction and Programming– Academic (PEX, for-credit), Drop-in and Special Classes Develop and implement policies and procedures related to Fitness programs and PEX classes Research, monitor and evaluate industry trends for physical fitness and aquatics Assess and determine class programming needs for UNR Fitness Center. Develop and implement new/revised classes Create course, activity and drop-in schedules Plan, imlement and monitor course registration Teach multiple types of fitness and activity classes Develop and implement tools and methods for program evaluation Select, train, direct and evaluate all group and academic fitness instructors (approx 30); coordinate and ensure coverage and substitutions Idenitfy approprate instructor certifications; ensure instructors meet requirements and continue to hold certification 30% Manage Fitness Center Operations Plan and ensure safe operations adhering to applicable industry standards Select, train, direct and evaluate student employees (approx 15) Develop and conduct training sessions and workshops for staff Develop risk management protocols including CPR, AED, First Aid training Plan and implement special events to promote fitness/wellness program Evaluate Fitness Center performance and utilitzation on a continuing basis, making recommendations for improvement at regularly scheduled meetings (i.e. managing IM Leagues drop in sign ups) Respond to all Fitness Program customer service issues (i.e. emergency and non-emergency) Oversee cleaning and sanitationof all equipment Oversee climbing wall operations (equipment, maintenance, liability, route setting) Position Description – Coordinator, CRW Fitness Page 3 30% Equipment Management Oversee or perform equipment troubleshooting, diagnosis and repair Liaise between University and multiple equipment manufacturers. Negotiate price and services on parts, repairs, electrical components, replacement equipment, new equipment, etc. Oversee operation of electronically linked equipment through network/personal computer Develop and implement preventive maintenance program on exercise equipment Oversee cleaning and maintenance of all exercise equipment through daily, weekly and monthly cleaning schedules executed by facility student staff Train others on maintenance and repairs 10% Fiscal Maintain budget for fitness equipment and programs and assist with development of the annual budget and purchasing of equipment Collaborate with Director of CRW in researching major fitness equipment purchases and trends in the fitness equipment 3. Level of Freedom: The Coordinator reports to the Director of CRW and coordinates all Fitness programs and PEX classes. The Coordinator develops and implements program policies and risk management protocols to ensure safety of participants. The Coordinator makes decisions within established protocols, policies and guidelines. In the absence of policy or a supervisor, the Coordinator has the latitude to make decisions concerning their area of responsibility as needed. These decisions should be aligned with program philosophies, mission and values. The Coordinator keeps the Director apprised of the decisions for the purposes of evaluating and providing future guidance. Impact: The position is critical to the fitness program and plays a key role in the low-cost high-quality service delivery model CRW relies upon to remain financially viable. The manner in which programs are developed and implemented impact the unit’s ability to provide quality programs and services which are critical to attracting and maintaining customers. Successful performance will sustain and grow revenues through program efforts. Lombardi Recreation plays a significant role in the recruitment and retention of students and faculty and overall student satisfaction with their college experience. Maintaining the quality and availability of services are key to the University succeeding in these areas. 4.
