Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the university. The Assistant Vice President of Development (ASVP) works closely with, as well as reports to, the Associate Vice President (AVP) of Development and Alumni Relations and the Vice President (VP) of Development and Alumni Relations/Executive Director of the Foundation in strategic planning for the division in organizing and implementing the comprehensive development function. The position is part of a larger team responsible for building a sense of community, pride and commitment between the University and those it serves, and for creatively using state-of-the art technology to deliver programs and services that obtain high stakeholder satisfaction levels. The position manages major gifts, annual giving, planned giving, prospect research and corporate and foundation relations. Some participation in the coordination of university events and alumni relations is also expected. The position focuses on the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major donors and works closely and collaboratively with the Associate Vice President, Vice President, President, senior administrators, Foundation Trustees, Alumni Board members and faculty to enhance support for the University. The Assistant Vice President is expected to personally solicit major gifts in the $100,000 figure range and larger. 2. List the major responsibilities, including percentage of time devoted to each. Level of Freedom: The ASVP possesses a high level of autonomy in decision-making related to the University of Nevada, Reno’s development program. In conjunction with the President, Vice Presidents, Deans, Senior Administration and faculty/staff across the University, the position coordinates, manages, and strategically implements fundraising projects, policies and procedures. Impact: DAR is critical to the University's ability to raise funds that are not available from the State. The decisions and judgments made by the Assistant Vice President will have a direct impact on the success of all fundraising efforts whether short- or long-term in all areas of development including annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, corporate and foundation relations as well as all subsidiary development functions including but not limited to prospect research. A strong fundraising program directly impacts all aspects, members and users of the University, including students, parents, alumni, faculty/staff and the community at large. Everything from scholarships, faculty support and capital building projects to program needs is impacted by fundraising. A strong fundraising program provides the University with the ability to obtain the amenities that assist with recruitment and retention of students. The ASVP has a high level of public visibility; the decisions and judgments made impact the reputation and credibility of the University, DAR and the University Foundation. The actions and decisions of the ASVP directly impact student and faculty recruitment, research program development and investment by donors, foundations, governmental organizations and other funding sources.
