1. Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the
university. Attach an organizational chart with positions, ranges, and names for the division
which reflects the position in it as well as those supervised in the department. (This section is
used for advertisement of the position.)
The Women’s Basketball Coaches in the Intercollegiate Athletics Department (ICA) at the University
of Nevada, Reno (UNR) are responsible for developing, teaching, and promoting all aspects of a
competitive Division IA Women’s basketball program. The individuals act as a representative for UNR
to promote the university and the ICA in a positive light within the community, the State of Nevada,
and nation-wide by recruiting first-class student-athletes and by coaching and guiding them to the best
of their abilities.
Range 1 - Assistant Coach
The Assistant Coach, Women’s Basketball, assists the higher level basketball coaches in all aspects
of a competitive Division IA Women’s Basketball program as well as assisting the ICA staff if
necessary. Individual is responsible for scouting and film breakdown, game planning, student-athlete
conditioning, teaching and training of technical information, and public relations and promotion.
Range 2 – 2nd Assistant Coach
In addition to the above, the 2nd Assistant Coach, Women’s Basketball, is responsible for practice and
game day coaching, recruitment and retention of student-athletes, counseling student-athletes
regarding athletic, academic, and social issues, scheduling, academic instruction, supervision and
staff management of lower level coaches, assisting in the handling administrative details of group and
team coordinator such as travel, transportation, scheduling, and other similar logistics, and conducting
staff meetings, assisting with budgeting, and performing other management level duties.
Range 3 - 1st Assistant Coach
In addition to the above, the 1st Assistant Coach, Women’s Basketball, assists the Associate Head
Coach in all aspects of a competitive Division IA program. This position is responsible for practice
and game coaching, the recruitment and retention of student-athletes, scheduling, academic
integrity, and program promotion and fundraising. This position supervises all 2nd and Assistant
Coaches as directed by the Associate Head Coach and Head Coach and serves as Acting
Associate Head Coach in his/her absence.
Range 4 - Associate Head Coach
In addition to the above, the Associate Head Coach, Women’s Basketball, assists the Head Coach in
all aspects of a competitive Division IA program. This position supervises all 1st and 2nd Assistant
Coaches and Assistant Coaches as directed by the Head Coach and serves as Acting Head Coach in
his/her absence. This position is responsible for fiscal management, program administration and
promotion, and fundraising.

Ensure compliance with NCAA, Conference, and university rules and regulations (subject to
disciplinary or corrective action as set forth in the provisions of the NCAA enforcement
procedures)
Provide a safe environment for student athletes on and off the field and specifically during a
university sponsored athletic event

 Assist with the off-season conditioning (running and weight training)

 Handle aspects of offensive and defensive plays as directed by Head Coach

off-campus visits; serve as liaison with high school and university officials
regarding various student services such as admissions, financial aid, etc.

schools, parents, community and within the university
 Participate in fundraising for both the program and the department as a whole
 When practical under the circumstances, intercollegiate staff is encouraged to voluntarily
attend all athletic events to promote audience participation and support for UNR’s team efforts

Impact:
The decisions and judgments made by the incumbent of this position and the results of work
performed have a major impact on the athletic department, university, and Conference. It is essential
that the integrity of Wolf Pack Athletics be maintained. Decisions and judgments impact the
department and university because of the visibility of Division I Athletics. Team success, academic
eligibility, and student-athletes’ progress toward a degree are necessities. The program must be in
compliance with current NCAA and Conference rules and regulations and non-adherence or noncompliance results in ineligibility to play in NCAA and Conference athletics. Unacceptable behavior
and positive behavior on and off the field by coaches and athletes is highly visible and reflects on the
program, athletic department and university.
