SUMMARY:
Tommy Smith, Director, LSU Office of Budget & Planning and Senator Donna Torres was unable to
attend, thus there was no update on the University Budget or University Finance and Administration. Jason
Droddy, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Communications and External Relations was unable to attend due
to the legislative session; however, Senator Gothreaux shared the following email update on University
Governmental Relations Efforts provided by Droddy.
Report:
The Governor’s proposed cash-balance plan is scheduled for House Retirement Committee
Thursday. No implications to current employees. There are new retirement proposals but they
have not been scheduled yet.
Constitutional Amendment on guns passed last night by a vote of 31-6.
The joint committee also discussed the current state spending freeze in effect via Governor Jindal’s
Executive Order BJ 2012-3 (see attached copy of the executive order and the University’s implementation
plan ). Senator Gothreaux noted that the Student Government Forum on the Budget, discussed at the last
Staff Senate meeting by Student Government President Cody Wells, has been schedule for Thursday, April
26, 2012 in the LSU Student Union. The exact time and location has not yet been determined. More
information will be forthcoming.
As the committee has established standing committee meetings on the 2nd Tuesday of the month, the next
and final meeting of the joint committee for the 2011-2012 Staff Senate year is scheduled for Tuesday,
May 8, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in 221 Peabody Hall.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 2:30 p.m.
