Dear Parents:

My. Name is Mr. Mathis and I would like to welcome your child to 7 th Grade Texas History! I’m excited about the opportunity to get to know you, as well as you child, and I’m looking forward to a happy and productive school year.

This year we will focus on the following curriculum areas:

Primary and Secondary Sources

Texas Geography

Native Americans

Early Explorers

Texas Pioneers/Cattle Ranching

Texas Revolution

Civil War and Reconstruction

Government

20 th Century Texas

Please have your child bring the following supplies by Wed./Thurs., August 26 th & 27 th .

Please note that all of the supplies mentioned below will be brought to class each day.

One Subject Spiral College Ruled Notebook with pockets (100 Sheets) – 11in.x9in.

One Folder with pockets

#2 or Mechanical Pencils

Blue or Black, & a Red grading pen

The following are my classroom policies:

Homework & Late Work

All homework assignments are due at the beginning of the next class period unless otherwise specified.

Failure to turn in homework by the next class period will result in an assigned after school detention where the student will make up their assignment. Late work will receive a maximum grade of a 70.

Make Up Work (Excused Absence)

Students will have five school days to make up all assignment missed due to an excused absence. It is the student’s responsibility to check the make-up work binder and sign for the work that they missed if they are absent.

Any work not made up within the five school days immediately following a student’s absence will receive an assigned after school detention where the student will make up their assignment.

Classroom Expectations

Take your seat and begin working as soon as you enter my classroom.

Raise your hand with the appropriate signal to speak and/or to leave your seat.

Bring all materials to class every day.

No talking while I am talking. (This is something I take extremely seriously)

Respect your teacher and classmates at all times.

“Students, I will not hesitate to contact parents regarding your discipline.”

Consequences

Verbal Warning

Seat Change & Reflection Time Out assignment (Will be sent home and returned signed by parent)

Email or phone Call to parent

Detention 1 HOUR after school.

Team Parent Conference

Discipline Referral to student’s house principal

Severe disruptions will result in an immediate referral to a student’s house principal.

Grading Policy

My grading policy is as follows:

Classwork 35%

Homework 10%

Quizzes 20%

Test/Performance Assessments 35%

*Students will be given a grade sheet to keep track of their grades.

**Parents are encouraged to sign up for GradeSpeed & enable grade triggers on their mobile phone.
