software package that can be used by experts and
novices alike.

• The Adobe Photoshop CS3 workspace is arranged to
help you focus on creating and editing images.
• The workspace includes menus and a variety of tools
and palettes for viewing, editing, and adding elements to
your images.

• The tools are grouped into four categories :

Selection : use these tools to select objects.
Creative : Use these tools to draw objects and retouch photos.
Vector : Use these tools to work with vectors.
Navigation and Information : Use these tools tot view the page
and gather information.

How to Use a Tool
• If there is a small triangle at a tool’s lower right corner,
hold down the mouse button to view the hidden tools.
Then click the tool you want to select.

Layer
• Photoshop layers are like sheets of stacked acetate.
• You can see through transparent areas of a layer to the
layers below.
• You move a layer to position the content on the layer, like
sliding a sheet of acetate in a stack.
• You can also change the opacity of a layer to make
content partially transparent.

• The Layers palette lists all layers, layer groups, and layer
effects in an image.
• You can use the Layers palette to show and hide layers,
create new layers, and work with groups of layers.

Layer Mask
•
You can use masks to hide portions of a layer and
reveal portions of the layers below. You can create two
types of masks :
– Layer masks are resolution-dependent bitmap images that are
edited with the painting or selection tools.
– Vector masks are resolution independent and are created with a
pen or shape tool.

Filter
• You can use filters to clean up or retouch your photos,
apply special art effects that give your image the
appearance of a sketch or impressionistic painting, or
create unique transformations using distortions and
lighting effects.
• The Filter Gallery provides a preview of many of the
special effects filters. You can apply multiple filters, turn
on or off the effect of a filter, reset options for a filter, and
change the order in which filters are applied.
