To participate in the RCA, you must have a valid driver’s license. Please include a copy of your driver’s license with this application. This application must be signed and dated to be considered complete. By signing this application, I verify the following: I understand that the RCA is one semester (16 weeks) and classes are held on M, W, F 17:00 – 22:00 & SAT 08:00 - 17:00. I understand that the RCA is a very physically demanding course. Physical Training (PT) may include running up to 5 miles. Training also includes rigorous exercise and weightlifting to build strength and endurance to prepare for the demands of being a firefighter. There may need to be a change in diet to reach physical expectations. I will begin or continue an exercise program as soon as I am accepted into the RCA. I understand that if I am accepted into the RCA, I will drop any previously registered classes and enroll in the RCA classes, 250A and 250B. The RCA consists of two accredited college courses (16 credit hours). Resident /non-resident tuition and fees is $1,800.00 for 250A and $1,800.00 for 250B, totaling at $3,600.00 for the semester. Additional costs of approximately $520 for equipment, uniforms, books and supplies will be required. I understand that a time commitment is required for this course. It is expected of RCA recruits to not miss any class time. Two tardies or one unexcused absence may result in termination from the RCA. I understand that if I am a member of the Military, National Guard or Reserves that I will need to contact my commanding officer ASAP to obtain permission to make up any drill dates that conflict with RCA classes. I understand that the RCA is a regimented, paramilitary course with demand for respect and attention to details. This includes uniform, appearance, and attitude. This program also works on a demerit system. If you receive too many demerits, you can be dismissed from the program. The RCA course includes classroom time with frequent written tests. An average of 15-20 hours of outside study time per week should be expected. I certify that the information provided is accurate. I understand that failure to provide accurate information may result in dismissal from the program. I understand that if I am accepted into the RCA while currently enrolled in the prerequisites courses, I must successfully pass all course work with at least a “C-” grade or better before the RCA semester begins. I understand that I must complete EMT training prior to attempting RCA. I understand that I must reapply for another semester if I am not accepted at this time. “I can honestly say that after four years of earning my bachelor's degree and a year of paramedic school there has not been a single semester more fulfilling than that of the fire academy.” Quote from Recruit Landon Flack, Class 67 “The RCA is hard work. You have to earn it. You have to apply yourself. You can’t be lazy. You have to listen.” Quote from Recruit Casey Metcalf, Class 58 Applicant’s Signature ____________________________________ Date_________________
