SCRAPPY “HITLER” DOO The rise of Hitler As a matter of fact, Hitler was a soldier in World War one! The rise of Hitler Hitler later went on to become: ★ the Chancellor of Germany ★ Führer of Nazi Germany ★ LEader of the Nazi Party ★ Created the Holocaust ★ Attempted to exterminate the Jews The Rise of Hitler This lead to the two “teams” of WWII. THE ALLIES RUSSIA Lend Lease Program On March 11th, 1941, the US military was granted the ability to aid foreign nations during the war. The allowed the president to transfer arms or any other defense materiel for which the COngress allocated money to ‘the government of any country whose defense was vital to the United States national security. Lend Lease Program The lend lease act enabled the US to aid Great Britain. Lend Lease Program One of the biggest threats to the US Lend-Lease was the German U-Boats. They were subs that would use torpedoes to sink ships believed to be carrying weapons and supplies to Great Britain. Lend Lease Program In response to the German U-Boats, the Americans Produced Liberty Ships, which were cargo ships designed to specially transport US goods to Great Britain. This was all to support GB’s war efforts against the NAzis. FDR’s role in WWII In the beginning of the War, the United states remained neutral. Until... FDR’s role in WWII The 32nd president of the United States, FRANKLIN ‘FRED’ ROOSEVELT declared the US into World War Two. Attack On Pearl Harbor On December 7, 1941, Japan attacked the U.S.’ naval base in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Attack On Pearl Harbor Zoinks! How much damage did they cause Velma? The Japanese destroyed 20 naval vessels and 200 American planes. Over 2000 American sailors and soldiers were killed, and another 1000 were injured. Attack On Pearl Harbor The following day, Franklin D. Roosevelt gave his famous speech about the attack. Japanese American Internment After the attack on Pearl Harbor, many Americans speculated and feared that the Japanese American immigrants were somehow helping the Japanese plan another attack on the U.S. They are helping plot another attack! Japanese American Internment Because of this fear, Americans created internment camps. These were much like concentration camps, but they were labor camps. The immigrants were forced to abandon their life and come work at these camps, just because of the fear of the Japanese attacking again. Japanese American Internment That violates basic human rights! And I know what you’re thinking Scooby, The Japanese American Citizens League tried to argue that these steps were unjustifiable, but the camps remained for two and a half years. Battle of Midway On June 3-6, 1942, the U.S Navy defeated an Imperial Japanese Naval fleet. This defeat proved to be irreparable. This was an important defeat in the course of the war. Battle of Midway This battle was a major turning part for the war on the Pacific. Before this, the Japanese had completely controlled the Pacific, but once the U.S naval fleet defeated them, all of that changed! D-Day On June 6, 1944, over 160,000 allied troops landed along the French coastline to take down Nazi Germany. More than 9,000 Allied Soldiers were killed or wounded, but their sacrifice allowed other troops to make it to Hitler’s army. D-Day General Dwight Eisenhower gave the go ahead for the attack. The Red Army outnumbered the Germans in terms of men and equipment. Alex “Shaggy” Popov, 5th Shock Army 1945 Fall of Berlin (Battle) On April 30th, Hitler commits suicide in order to escape the disgrace of deposition and capitulation. Fall of Berlin (Battle) The city could not last out for long and on May 2nd 1945, Berlin surrendered to the Russians and the war in Europe all but ended. Germany unconditionally surrendered on May 7th. Role of Women at Home In 1942, women at home were to be a housewife, taking care of children and house duties. Role of Women at Home By 1945, some women joined the new female branches of the military, many of those who stayed at home went to work in factories and filled other traditionally male jobs while their husbands, fathers, boyfriends, brothers, and sons left to fight. The Holocaust Jews are Communist and they will betray us during the war. I believe that they would impure the German race. Adolf “Scrappy Doo” Hitler The Holocaust Between 1933 and 1945, the Germans slaughtered Jews and other victims in mass shootings. Six millions were murdered. The Holocaust When the Allied forces finally invaded Germany in 1945, Adolf Hitler knew he had been defeated. Hundreds were caught and punished for their involvement in the Holocaust. Atomic Bomb In revenge of the attack on Pearl Harbor, a US B-29 bomber dropped an atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Atomic Bomb What’s positive about it? Well Scooby, it made the Japanese surrender for the sake of the other cities and people, which ended the war. Atomic Bomb Hmm.. It killed hundreds of thousands of innocent Japanese people. It was unfair to the family and relatives of the victims because the military-run government started and fought the war, not the citizens. It was not a democracy.
