PLC Plan for 2011-2012
Step 1: NORMS
 Create and record norms for your group
 Decide on time/place
*For PLCs who communicate on-line, please submit your communication schedule, or
describe how you will be spending your PLC time.
Step 2: IDENTIFY 8-10 ESSENTIAL LEARNINGS PER SEMESTER (CCSS)
 For some, this is reviewing past essential learnings, and determining whether those
are still applicable or if they need revision.
 For some, this is starting at the beginning. Looking at new state standards to
determine the essential learnings/power standards for first semester.
 These should be included on your syllabus
 These should be the same for each member of the PLC
 Determine timeline (scope and sequence/curriculum map)
 ***If you are in a department other than Math or ELA, determine which CCSS literacy
standards you will address.
Step 3: COMPARE SYLLABI OR CREATE A COMMON SYLLABUS
 Carefully consider grading policies and assessment weights- Look at “Thinking
about Assessment” questions
 Include essential learnings for the semester
 Determine common policies
Step 4: CREATE AN ASSESSMENT PLAN
 What will you include in a common assessment?
 How much of it will be “common”?
 How will you ensure common scoring of the assessment?
 How will you collect the data?
 How will you share the data as a PLC?
 What formative pieces will you do together?
Step 5: PLAN FOR WHAT TO DO WITH THE DATA
 What needs to be retaught?
 Who isn’t learning?
 How are students involved in assessment? Do they know their own data?
 Who needs to be more challenged?
