Happy Valley Band 2014-15 Handbook CLASSROOM RESPONSIBILITIES C.A.R.E Every person in any organization has the responsibility to help make that organization successful. In band class this year, we will take C.A.R.E. to define those responsibilities. Communicate If you ever need extra help, please ask. Let me know in advance of any schedule conflicts. If you have to be absent from a performance at the last minute, ca or email and let me know. If you are ever troubled by something in the band program - or anything else at all - please come and talk to me. I am always willing to listen and help. Attend Rehearsal: Be on time to rehearsals and performances. Arrive by not at the assigned time. Bring everything that you need to participate (i.e. instrument, book/music, pencil and a great attitude). Performance: Performances are very important to a class like band. Every member contributes to the prepared sound the group has rehearsed. Given the interdependence of parts, missing a performance will diminish the effectiveness of the players next to the missing member but more importantly the group. There is no way to make up a performance because they are limited one-time experiences. We all count on you to do your part and give your best at a performance. Absences due to illness or death in the family with be addressed on an individual basis. All other absences are considered unexcused and will result in a two letter grade drop per grading period. Respect Property and Others Do not touch what does not belong to you. Respect the right of others to learn and of the teacher to teach by not causing an interruption to the rehearsal. Always know whether it is time to visit or to work. Please be careful around the instruments and equipment. Please do not sit, lean on, or play roughly around the equipment. Please do not use the whiteboard, computers, or any other school equipment in band room without the permission of the director. The office, storage closets, and practice rooms are restricted spaces and you must receive permission to enter. Execute Rehearsal Procedures Be in your seat with all materials when the bell rings Do not play before rehearsal begins. Stop immediately when the conductor stops. Stay in your seat unless you have permission otherwise. If you are not able to participate in class, please see me immediately when you arrive . Please do not ask to leave the class unless you are ill and need to go home. If your instrument is having problems, please bring it to me after class and I will be happy to help. The bell does not dismiss the class. The director dismisses the class. I will do so when the room is in order.
