Scared to move away?
Biography: Before attending university I was extremely scared that I wouldn’t make any friends as in Sixth Form I wasn’t involved in
any extra-curricular activities, therefore I only ever mixed with my school peers, who I had known for a long time. However as soon
as I arrived, I very quickly realised I had nothing to be afraid of. I almost instantly forgot about moving away and started to make
friends from all over the world with different backgrounds, interests and hobbies. Now in my second year of study, I have been elected to be
deputy chairman of the Arts society. Through doing this not only have I formed great friendships but developed communication and teamwork
skills that will be a great addition to my CV. Through having independence I’ve gained an abundance of confidence and coming to university has
definitely been the right decision.

own opinions on areas we have studied
throughout the week.
Practical workshops are

we are expected to take notes. This week’s
lecture was focused on the History of Fashion
Photography.
“ ” Independent Study:
You are expected to undertake independent
study while not in lessons. I’m expected to
study for at least forty hours a week, but the
freedom allows me to study at weekends,
enabling me to visit art galleries in the
weekdays.

Most universities are split

each having their own

buildings are in a single
location which we call
the university campus.
Other universities have
their departments spread

referred to as city campus

array of volunteering opportunities to get
involved in whilst at university. A very popular
society at university is the Community Giving
society. Joining the society is an excellent way
to develop skills, make new friends and give
something to the local community.
