The mission of Scalable Software Systems
Laboratory (S3Lab) is to create future cloud,
smart life, and big data ecosystems today. We
create innovative ideas/algorithms and design
scalable software ecosystems for a broad
spectrum of computers, including smart sensors,
smartphones, mobile devices, clusters, clouds,
supercomputers, cyber-physical systems, mobile
social networks, and future Internet. S3Lab
enables applications in science, engineering,
health, business, and arts. S3Lab is a proud
member of
the NSF Center for Cloud and
Autonomic Computing (CAC).
Mobile Social Networks, CPS
GatorCloud: the first SDN-enabled campus
cloud. It dramatically boosts the Campus
Research Network from 10Gb/s to over 100Gb/s
with software-defined networking, unified platform,
and novel cloud services: networks, HPC, clouds.
MyCloud, SuperStack; SDN GolfClub: GolfVisor,
Golfer, GolfStore, GolfEngine; CloudBay open
cloud market.
CognitiveEngine (Florida Brain): massive data
stream analytics engine for cognitive deep
learning. It features memory-less unsupervised/
supervised dynamic learning, realtime processing
of massive data streams, online crowdsourcing
and interaction.

Guoguo: fine-grained indoor GPS. It offers the
precise indoor positioning and navigation system
with the world-leading result of 5cm accuracy,
making man-machine unity and instant information
access possible for the first time. It enables
augmented reality and mobile social networks.
Smart life in museums, libraries, malls, hospitals,
airports, and offices. * Guoguo is grasshopper in Chinese.
ToGathor: the mobile social network with
missions. Coming ToGathor is a beginning;
keeping ToGathor is progress; working ToGathor is
success. Broad applets in education, entertainment,
professionals, health, business. FindingNemo,
TotalRecall, InstantWhisper, and SocialEngine.

SMART: scalable and adaptive runtime
algorithms and toolkit. It enables large-scale
adaptive scientific applications with friendly
programming models for automatic parallelization
and high performance and throughput.
GemsCloud: cloud of robots, sensors, and
people. It offers remotely programmable novel
cloud services: robot/drone-as-a-service, CPS-as-aService, sensornet-as-a-service, and crowd-as-aservice, making robot the best companion in clouds.
GatorMap: MapReduce-like big data analytics
ecosystem. It supports enhanced MapReduce
programming models for scientific applications,
considering spatial and temporal locality,
iterations, streaming, and adaptive provisioning.
Mammoth, Plantir, Apala, IncMR.
VitalCloud: weaving a pervasive life network
and big data engine, with automatic non-contact
vital sign sensing. It substantially releases the
overwhelming pressure on the capacity of our public
health and further improves responses and contextaware continuous monitoring and analytics.
HiCloud: taming clouds in clouds. It addresses
the most challenging problems of very-highresolution numerical weather prediction via
ensembles assimilation on problem sizes and
scales that are only attainable on petascale
computing platforms.
Mobile Privacy: enjoy LBS without worry.
Privacy is a critical concern to LBS users in mobile
networks. Privacy-preserving is accomplished at
clients, servers, service providers, and their
interactions.
