Week of November 2 – November 6 Daily Five This week the students will be given the first administration of the High Frequency Word Evaluation. This is an HISD promotion standard. The students will be given three attempts throughout the year to pass the assessments. This week will be a review week of all the skills the children learned in the first nine weeks of school. We will focus on sequencing, cause and effect, punctuation and capitalization. Phonics The students will practice reading words with the long i sound. Examples: bike, line, and ride. They will also read words with wh, ch and tch. Examples: when, chick, match Long i- i_e 1. life 2. bite 3. smile 4. mine 5. like 6. hide 7. drive 8. bike 9. time 10. kite High Frequency Words 11. who 12. people Bonus Word: library Language Arts The students will continue to work on identifying adjectives and using them to describe nouns. Math Unit 2 Module 6 – Addition Strategies 6.1 Count On 6.2 Add Doubles 6.3 Use Doubles to Add 6.4 Doubles Plus 1 and Doubles Minus 1 6.5 Practice the Strategies Please read over the day’s lesson and choose one or two problems to discuss with your child. If she or he can teach the concept to you, then you know mastery occurred. Math homework goes home every day, but Friday, in the red folder. It is to be returned the next day. Homework is not graded, but checked, and teachers keep track of whether the homework is done or not as a report card requirement. FQ: What makes a good citizen? Please wear appropriate shoes for track, recess, and P.E. Please continue sending signed notes within 3 days of your child’s absence from school. Students must be fever free without fever reducing medication for 24 hours before returning to school!
