Week of February 8- 12 Daily Five This week the students will review synonyms and antonyms. They will be reminded that synonyms are words that have the same meaning and antonyms are opposites. We are also reviewing fact and opinion. This can be a very hard concept for the children. The students will learn the sound of “bossy r”, spelled er, ir, and ur. The second administration of the High Frequency Word Evaluation will be given this week. When a short vowel ends in a single consonant, double the consonant before adding the ending. Example: hop, hopping, hopped Math Module 13 - Addition and Subtraction Relationships 13.1 Record Related Facts 13.2 Identify Related Facts 13.3 Use Addition to Check Subtraction 13.4 Unknown Numbers Please read over the day’s lesson and choose one or two problems to discuss with your child. If she or he can teach the concept to you, then you know mastery occurred. Math homework goes home every day, but Friday, in the red folder. It is to be returned the next day. Homework is not graded, but checked, and teachers keep track of whether the homework is done or not as a report card requirement. Timed math fact test goal sheets are to be kept in the back pocket of your child’s red folder in order for you to know what facts to study each week. Please practice your math facts for at least 10 minutes each night if you are not up to subtraction to 15. Tie-Dye begins in Art on Feb.16th. All first graders will need a laundered white t-shirt in a ziplock bag. Please write the name on the inside band using permanent marker. Kelly green is our color. HISD-approved volunteers are welcome to help students with tie-dying in art class. Donations of RIT dye are greatly appreciated. Students will wear the shirts March 11th for the family picnic! _______________________ Valentine Exchange on Friday! Remember, this is optional. ______________________________ Social Studies Wants/Needs Goods/Services Students will learn to distinguish between needs and wants. They will also learn the difference between goods and services. Goods are items that are made while services are provided. IMPORTANT INFORMATION All students MUST walk/run track every day as part of the state of Texas requirements for physical fitness. Please wear appropriate shoes for track, recess, and P.E. Please continue sending signed notes within 3 days of your child’s absence from school. Students must be fever free without fever reducing medication for 24 hours before returning to school! Reminder: Each letter and/or number reversal will have 2 points deducted from the final grade.
