University of Exeter rises to 7th in the UK
High levels of student satisfaction, a low dropout rate and continued good research grades are making the University of Exeter a fixture in the top 10 of The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide league table.
According to the latest Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2015, the University has now risen to its new highest position of 7th in the national
rankings. In addition, the University scooped the Best Campus University award,
was 6th best for student satisfaction (with a score of 86.4%) and has the 6th
lowest drop-out rate.
University of Exeter Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive Professor Sir Steve
Smith said: “I am absolutely thrilled that the University of Exeter has been named not only the best university in the South West, but also that we have risen to 7th, our highest ranking to date. The united approach by both staff and
students to ensuring that Exeter builds on its success each year is illustrated by our continued rise across a range of educational platforms. This is not only a
proud day for everyone at the University, but also for the local community and for our many partners here in the South West and across the globe, who are
crucial to our success.”

Restructure of Graduate School
of Education’s portfolio of Masters
programmes
Effective immediately, the Graduate School of Education (GSE) has merged several (previously) separate programmes within a new modular MA in Education.
The following programmes are now available:
• MEd TESoL
• MSc Educational Research (usually within the four-year PhD programme but can be studied on its own)
• MA Education (with the following pathways)
o Creative Arts (Dance/Drama/Music/Visual Arts)
o Special Educational Needs
o Language and Literacy
o Science Education
o Maths Education
o Generic/no specialism
This restructure creates a number of new specialist options to promote under
the MA Education banner. A minimum of three months work experience is
required for these programmes. However, these need NOT be post-graduation
and can be full-time or part-time. Agents should be aware that it is no longer
possible to apply for the MEd Special Education Needs or the MEd Creative
Arts as these are now retitled within the MA in Education.
The Graduate School of Education is currently revising its webpages to reflect
these changes. Once these changes have been made, a future newsletter will
provide the weblink. In the meantime, if any counsellor requires any further
clarification or information, please refer to your International Officer.
