Other Matters Discussed (see minutes, indexed by date, for full details) • Student/faculty Electronic Communications - demands and expectations of students for the turnaround and the mode of communication with faculty; suggestion to possibly look into this topic as a policy recommendation (2/01/13); further discussion of possible wording for the email etiquette statement, example provided from the College of Ed (4/19/13; 5/3/13) • Waitlist – provided feedback and discussed some concerns about the new waitlist features 2012/2013 (9/07/12; 12/07/12; 2/01/13); changes (5/3/13) • IT Survey – 2012: discussion of the annual survey for faculty, students, and staff. The survey is conducted to poll their IT wants, needs, and perceptions and to assist in setting priorities for allocation of educational resources (10/05/12); draft of categories for 2013 (2/01/13; 3/01/13) • Video Streaming Services – an overview of the services available from the Library; discussion of the pricing and copyright issues (10/05/12) • TeachLivE - demo of the software to increase student opportunities for training in a simulated classroom setting (11/2/12) • Printing– overwhelming demand for printing services on campus; however, no one wants to incur the expense of printing, as noted in the IT survey data (10/02/12); Provost Hellenbrand allocated funds as a temporary solution to assist the colleges. Campus is looking into long-term solutions and the USU’s Go-Print is one option that is being reviewed (11/2/12); further discussion and a policy recommendation to have a first tier discussion between the Library and the University Student Union to coordinate the printing issue (4/16/13) • WebOne - CSUN’s new web environment based upon a design created by University Advancement, Marketing and Communications (11/2/12; 12/07/12; 2/01/13) • Student Access and Accommodation System (SAAS) - In the past, the process of accommodating students was paperwork-driven. Now, students can request services via a DRES web application and the ATC Annual Report 2012-13 • • • • • • • • • • IV. • DRES office and the professor can approve it online, including alternate testing requests (12/07/12) Learning Commons - the library re-design project: adding materials in electronic form as much as possible; desktops will be transformed into group settings; technology driven; different furniture; promoting and adjusting toward bring your own device (12/07/12); update on the progress, move of LRC to the Library (3/01/13); new Oviatt Learning Commons webpage with architectural renderings, showcasing the project (4/19/13) Moodle – transition to Moodle 2.0 (12/07/12; 2/01/13; 4/19/13) myCSUNTablet initiative (aka iPad initiative)- announced at the Faculty Retreat by President Harrison to incorporate iPads into the classroom (2/01/13); early adopters (3/01/13); new name (myCSUNTablet), faculty kickoff; update (4/16/13) SOLAR Online/Hybrid designations – review by ATC is due in 2013/14 (2/01/13); first year SOLAR results (4/19/03) Emerging Technologies – Provost Hellenbrand: how do we adapt to change in technology in higher education, test its effectiveness and test for accessibility; need rational expectations, better educating the community by not providing just answers but by explaining where and how they can find the answers. (3/01/13) eReader pilot – a CQF funded project from the Library; aims to provide check-out eReaders for a variety of devices to test and determine the performance and behavior of the devices and the content itself. (3/01/13) CSUN Open Access Initiative – the role of Scholar Works as CSUN’s institutional repository for OA CSUN faculty publications as a way to make scholarly output more available and increase the amount of citations (per article for a discipline) for faculty; Scholar Spotlight program (4/19/13) SB 520/AB 1306 – implications for California higher education, CSU and CSUN (4/16/13) What’s New in IT – regular updates in every meeting.
