Doctor’s Name __________________________ LZHS Surgery Center: Celery Surgery Understanding Anatomic Terminology is "critical" for students for use of their knowledge in Human Anatomy. The goal of this activity is to have you, the student use the anatomic terms used in class to perform surgery on a stalk of celery. Be very precise and careful during the surgery because you do not want to lose your patient. Procedure: After placing the celery in the supine (lying down, face up) position, assume your are the surgeon(s) performing the following surgical procedures on the celery … 1. We don't want to go into surgery unprepared. First, you must know the anatomy of your celery. Using a marker, draw a circle around the thoracic region on the ventral surface of the celery. 2. Draw a bold dot at the location of the naval (umbilicus). 3. Draw a triangle at the celery's pelvic region. 4. On the dorsal surface, draw a dotted line representing the celery's vertebral region. Draw a star at the cranial end of the line, and a money sign at the caudal end. 5. Draw a ring around the celery's cervical region. 6. Draw a square around the abdominal region. 7. At the umbilicus on the anterior surface of the celery, make a superficial midsagittal incision and proceed inferiorly (all the way to the bottom of the stalk). 8. At the Superior end, on the posterior surface, make a Deep Transverse Incision. Do not transect (completely cut through) the celery. 9. Enter from the lateral surface at the level of the umbilicus and make a complete Coronal (Frontal) incision and proceed inferiorly (all the way to the bottom). 10. Make a complete medial notch on the inferior end all the way to the bottom of the stalk (a notch is a triangle or wedge). 11. Ask your instructor to examine your patient. Did they survive the surgery? 1
