1 Creative Exchange Programme Call for proposals– deadline 31 March 2013 The University of Exeter’s Environment and Sustainability Institute (ESI) and Falmouth University’s Research in Art, Nature and the Environment (RANE) research group are currently accepting proposals for projects to be carried out under a new Creative Exchange Programme. The ESI is leading interdisciplinary research into solutions to problems of environmental change. Research undertaken by the ESI aims to enhance people’s lives by improving their relationships with the environment. The RANE research group examines the relationship between the visual arts and ecological thinking. The group aims to use artistic practice to offer interpretations and models of thinking about the natural world that help to promote a sustainable future. The ESI/RANE Creative Exchange Programme will foster dialogue between the two groups and facilitate collaboration between ESI researchers and creative practitioners who engage with issues of environment and sustainability in their work. The Programme also aims to stimulate opportunities for public engagement with ESI research and to support collaborative learning, including sharing of methodologies and research practices. Programme details and structure: • Short or long term residencies and collaborations, carried out during the academic year • Applications are encouraged from creative practitioners (visual artists, writers, curators, film makers, etc) who wish to collaborate with ESI researchers and from ESI researchers who wish to collaborate with artists or experiment with creative practice in their own work. • Participants will be part of the ESI and RANE research communities and will help host monthly art/science café discussions at the ESI. • Resources available for shared use by participants in the Programme include two spaces on the University of Exeter Cornwall Campus (which is shared with Falmouth University and known locally as the Tremough Campus), the ESI creative space and the RANE cabin/studio. Potential uses of these spaces include studio working, group gatherings and public exhibitions. • Participants will have Visiting Affiliate status and access to the University of Exeter and Falmouth University resources and facilities on the Cornwall Campus (library, production facilities, etc • No stipend is offered through the Programme, though participants may bid for funds from a small 2 materials budget.
