Widening Participation (WP) is a key priority for the Government’s Department of
Employment and Learning. By supporting underrepresented groups, WP aims to ensure everyone can participate in higher education and its benefits, regardless of their background. The definition of a WP student the University of Exeter uses is -
You must:
Be a British National
Have resided in the United Kingdom (excluding Channel Islands and the Isle of
Man) for the 3 years preceding enrolling at the University
Be a current undergraduate or PGCE student
Additionally, at least one of the following must apply to you:
I am a mature student (over 21 on entry to University for undergraduate study)
I receive Disabled Student Allowance
I am a member of an ethnic minority underrepresented at the University of Exeter
I attended a UK school or college ranked in the lowest 40% in the league tables
I am a care leaver
I receive a bursary (or received one last year, but currently are on a year abroad)
I participated in STAR or Realising Opportunities programmes
