Dr Peter Arnold CEO, Newcastle Science City Scientifically educated at Cardiff and York Universities Peter has significant experience in commercial, business development and corporate R&D change and created a number of technology businesses. Peter took up his position as Chief Executive of Newcastle Science City in June 2008, and brings significant experience to the role as a senior research and development leader. Peter’s previous role was Group Director of Technology at Smith & Nephew, one of the world's leading medical devices companies, and prior to that lead R&D for Johnson and Johnson Medical Inc. Having held senior scientific management roles on both sides of the Atlantic, Peter has led significant corporate change programmes, created a number of businesses, and has contributed to government policy on clinical research, nanotechnology and stem cell technology – areas of particular interest to Newcastle Science City. Newcastle Science City is already changing the face of the city and proving a catalyst for significant investment in people, projects and facilities that reinforce Newcastle’s reputation for world-leading innovation and as a future leading location for the integration of science and business. Building on this reputation and leading Newcastle Science City in the delivery of its other ambitious objectives – including the development of the former Brewery Site in the city centre has been a major part of his role since joining Newcastle in this ambitious initiative.
