Miss Jackson’s Class Weekly News Central Avenue School What We Learned This Week… Math – This week we began our new math unit. We learned three ways to multiply fractions, which include drawing a model, multiplying first and then simplifying, and using prime factorization to simplify first and then multiply. Reading – In our book clubs we continued working with historical fiction books. We discussed universal themes of historical fiction and how our books would be different if they were written from another character’s perspective. Writing – We continued our historical fiction writing unit by writing strong leads and beginning to draft. We wrote with a purpose, kept our audience in mind, and learned how to build tension as we got to the climax of our stories. Science – This week we continued to discuss the properties of air. We learned that air takes up space and has weight. We also learned that air is made up of molecules, which move around and exert a force felt as air pressure.
