The United Nations-our diplomatic relationships with other nations-to try preventing greater global conflict
Trade with other countries
We were involved in WW1, 2, and Vietnam & Korea (for example, our allegiances pulled us into WW1)
9/11 caused security checks on planes, buildings-decisions made by our country impacted us-changing a domestic
issue counteracts a global issue
Chinese stock market has recently had a tremendous impact on us-we are financially tied into other economies
Focus question-how have our relations with other countries affected our country?

An evolving democracy
LGBT rights-gay marriage-people demanding rights-government adapting and giving those rights to citizens
Womens’ right to voteAfrican Americans’ rights
Articles of Confederation-put into place before Constitution, and then they needed revision
Abraham Lincoln abolished slavery
Andrew Jackson tried to force Native Americans off their land, Supreme Court said you cannot, he ignored them-he
killed the National Bank, developing system of “pet banks”-changed the way government runs-later Andrew
Johnson lost most of that power by giving a lot of that power to Congress

Social ChangeRight to vote-over time, these rights were given to women, African Americans-it took a long time to get there
African American rights-how has that changed over time- opportunities & rights have been given over the past 170
years
Police-trying to change the way things go
Gay Rights
MLK-spoke up, causing lots of changes for the African American population
Uncle Tom’s Cabin opened a lot of eyes to cause many to take a proactive stand against slavery
