The Vice Chancellor Steve Smith was a co-signatory of a letter to the editor of The Times which
argued that the EU is a boon to UK science and innovation.
REGIONAL
Vice chancellor Steve Smith was interviewed on BBC 1 South West Spotlight concerning plans for
redundancies at the University. The plans were widely reported on regional media included Western
Daily Press, Express and Echo, Western Morning News and Congoo News (US), as well as in Times
Higher Education.
Vice Chancellor Steve Smith was quoted in The Exeter Daily cornering the CWTS Leiden scientific
performance ranking which placed the University sixth in the UK, eighth in Europe and top 40 in the
world.

Our press release regarding research by Mark Goodwin (Mathematics) into how long range weather
