This is a Seyfert galaxy and undergoing starburst activity. There is evidence that it is
currently in the midst of a merger.
SN 1994ak (type IIn) was discovered in this galaxy on December 24.
Observations:
C8 at 65x. A faint halo that surrounds a bright stellar nucleus. A 9.2m star (SAO
42762) lies 8 min NNE. It is flanked (about 25 min each side) by 7.9m SAO 42748 to
the NW and 8.3m SAO 61349 to the SE.
Distance: 110,000,000 light years
