Van Maanen's Star is 1.5o NE of here. It is a white dwarf 13.8 light years away. At
12.4m, it is hard to find, and only 1/6000th as bright as the Sun. Its surface has cooled to
only 6,000o K. It is 7,800 miles in diameter, and has a density of 20 tons per cubic inch
(ten times denser than Sirius B). Its gravity is 50,000 times earth's.
