AB 1827: 1.3 @ 89. Over 100 measurements. The stars share common proper
motion. The orbit may take 1,000 years (Rabe, 1958), with semi-major axis of 6.6" and
direct motion. At closest approach, the two may be about 80 AU apart.
AC 1832: 20.0 @ 245. 9 measurements.
AD 1832: 40.0 @ 89. 87 measurements.
A third component lies 12' SW and is the red dwarf Luyten 14836 (12.31m). It lies at
least 15,000 AU from AB.
Star A is a double-lined spectroscopic binary with a 1.1398 day period and total mass
of 1.7 suns. It exhibits atmospheric and coronal activity, and radio flares. It is also a
Delta Scuti variable.
Observations:
C8 at 83x. Some observers report both as W. Webb saw them as Y and B and said
there was a "great divergence as to colours."
Scale model (in which the Sun is the size of a baseball):

Notes:
It was discovered by William Herschel in 1782.
1826: 0.9 @ 23. Over 100 measurements. The orbit takes 34.487 years (Baize,
1976) with a semi-major axis of 1.36" and retrograde motion. Star A is a spectroscopic
binary with a 10.5 year period and 1.14 solar masses. It is also an infra-red source. Star
B is 0.82 solar masses.
The A star has already left the Main Sequence. Since it is almost the same mass as
the Sun, it serves as a model of what the Sun will some day evolve into.
The system belongs to the Zeta Her group.
Observations:
C8 at 280x. Chris Peters (Rio Rico, AZ; 8" Newt)— magnification of 358x, "showed
the star elongated in an almost N-W line with the fainter star to the N." Both looked Y.
Webb saw them as Y and R.
