William Herschel discovered the binary nature of Xi in 1780. It was the first binary
whose orbit was computed (1828) by Savary.
1820: 2.1 @ 276. Over 100 measurements. It has an orbital period of 59.84 years
(Heintz, 1967), with a semi-major axis of 2.53" and retrograde motion. They were widest
last in 1974. Each star is a spectroscopic binary (A-a period is 669.17 days; Bb is 3.98
days). Both are also infra-red stars. A is also thought to have an unseen companion.
Observations:
C8 at 697x Some observers report yW for both, or W and pY.
