PTO Co Presidents’ Message
Can you believe that we are at Spring Parent Teacher Conferences
already?! The weather has certainly been great while the children
complete PARCC testing. Spring time brings lots of great activities
at TJS!
First off, we are participating in a district-wide shoe drive this week
(April 22-29) sponsored by the Madison Environmental Commission
and Sustainable Madison. You can find more information inside
Jaguar Tails.
We are so pleased to announce that Mindfulness will be coming to
TJS! 3rd & 5th grade students will be piloting the program this year.
The teachers will all be getting involved, and there will be a parent
session on Thursday, May 12 at 7:30 pm in the Jaguar Jungle.
Our annual PTO sponsored author visit is scheduled for May 10th.
Wendy Mass (A Mango Shaped Space) is our guest author this year.
Be on the look out for an email from our Educational Enrichment
chairs with lots more information including book sales, book signing
and a poster contest!
And last, but certainly not least…
JAMBOREE! JAMBOREE! It’s back again! On Friday May 20th,
we will be holding our annual Jamboree. Tons of bounce houses,
awesome Photo Booth, sweet and savory food trucks, face painters,
games for the kids and the ever popular Basket Raffle. Stay tuned for
details through TJS PTO News.
The next BOE meeting is tomorrow night, April 26 at 7:30 pm. This
is presentation of next school year’s budget. We hope to see you all
there.
Link to the agenda can be found here.
Here is a link to the public budget.
Also… make sure you add our General PTO meeting to your
calendar for May 18th at 2pm. Dr. Rossi will be joining us in the
TJS Art room.
Thank you,
Jaime Conroy and Jenn Bruns

RECYCLE
Shoes, Sneakers & Boots
April 25, 2016
APRIL 1 to MAY 1
Madison Environmental Commission
Recycle Shoes to Support Green Projects in Madison Schools
Donate shoes, sneakers and boots and help support green projects in the Madison public
schools. The Madison Environmental Commission’s third annual Footwear Recycling Drive will
take place April 1 to April 30 at the Madison Area YMCA. Special recycling boxes will also be set up
at all five Madison public schools through May 6th.
The drive accepts tied or rubber-banded pairs of shoes, sneakers, boots and cleats. Footwear must be
clean. Please do not donate broken shoes, single shoes, rubber flip-flops, slippers, ski boots, ice
skates, roller blades or footwear covered in mud.
The Footwear Recycling Drive is a green fundraiser to support school environmental projects that
include Central Avenue School’s flourishing vegetable garden. Kings Road School is exploring
composting and a plan for its own vegetable garden. Torey J. Sabatini School is busy with “Trashless
Tuesdays”, composting and a butterfly garden development. The Madison Junior School is
fundraising to purchase filtered water bottle refilling stations, similar to the ones already installed at
Madison High School. Additionally, the high school is actively promoting decreased use of water
bottles. It also runs composting education at the elementary schools during the annual Day of
Service, collects bikes for Pedals for Progress and participates in beach sweep clean-ups with Clean
Ocean Action during fall and spring.
Volunteers interested in participating in green projects can learn more at sustaniablemadisonnj.org.
They can also contact Stephan Stocker, Madison Environmental Commission chair, at
StockerS@rosenet.org.

Dear parents and guardians:
Please join us in our annual Book Swap!
13th Annual TJS Book Swap
Tuesday, May 3, and Wednesday, May 4
3:15–4:30 pm, Jaguar Jungle
This eco-friendly TJS tradition benefits:
·
Our teachers, by providing them with additional books for their classrooms.
·
Your kids, by giving them access to great, age-appropriate books at no cost.
·
Goryeb Children’s Hospital at Morristown Medical Center, which will receive any
books left over after the book swap.
·
You, by giving you a excuse to clean out your kids’ overflowing bookshelves!
We ask that you please send any gently used book donations (appropriate for grades K–
5) into school with your child, and your child’s teacher will take the books to the main
office. If the books are too heavy for your child to carry, we ask that you please drop
them off directly to the main office. We will have a Book Swap Drop-Off box
Books can be sent in/dropped off through Monday, May 2. We will only be accepting
books (no videos, CDs, or electronic games, please).
All TJS teachers will have the opportunity to take first and last pass at these donated
books so that they can be used in their classrooms.
Books left over after the Book Swap event will be donated to Goryeb Children’s
Hospital.
If you have any questions or would like to volunteer to help with this event, please
contact Tania Lee (tanialee@gmail.com) or Amanda McLoughlin
(akmcloughlin@gmail.com). Thanks so much for your participation!

BOX TOPS…It’s SO EASY!!!
Attached is the simplest form to submit your box
tops
and getting your kids involved in raising money for
their school! It takes a village to raise money and
TJS has some of the best parents around!
As we know, parent volunteers run the PTO. On
average we have over 3,000 box tops submitted
each
year. One parent volunteer is responsible for cutting
and pasting all the Box Tops on to the enclosed
forms. Lets make life easier for those who volunteer
for this easy fundraiser that makes over $1,000 a
year
for our school.
Please make sure that before you turn in box tops
you
(or your child) attach them to the enclosed form.
FYI…”Bonus” Box Tops can still be turned in
separately in an enclosed envelope.

Dear Madison Community:
The Madison High School Class of 2016 is selling a one of a kind commemorative blanket to help raise funds for
their graduation gala (project graduation). It is one of the warmest and softest blankets you will ever own.
Those that already own one can attest to just how warm and cuddly it is.
Class officers Kaitlin Hanley, Mike Lami and Kevin Travers are pictured here holding the blanket to show you
just how big the blanket is – it is large enough to wrap 2 people in and fits perfectly on a twin bed. The blankets
are $40 each and can be purchased at the Madison Pharmacy or you can send Debra a note to the email listed
below and she will be sure to get you one.
Sincerely, 2016 Class Parents,

AMERICAN FLAG RUGBY
Summer Spor ts – 2016
Coed, Non-Contact fun for Boys & Girls ages 5-14
June 13th through July 23rd
Mor r istown Colonials Rugby once again takes to the field! The game we play is
Amer ican Flag Rugby, a coed, non-contact form of Rugby 7’s using flags. Players
build and utilize the skills of running, kicking, passing, space strategy, and teamwork.
It’s a game for all kids and is firmly focused on developing self confidence and having
fun. This year Rugby will make a return to the Olympics with Rugby 7’s a featured
event in Rio. The US is currently the reigning Olympic Champion!
American Flag Rugby introduces young players to the game with an emphasis on
enjoyment, teamwork and sportsmanship. Children play in 4 age groups, each group
bringing in more aspects of the game as the players progress. The program is intended
for children entering kindergarten through ninth grade.

We know its summer. We emphasize a low pressure environment where kids are
expected to come and go as family vacations allow. Of course, no experience is
necessary. Practices are Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:00pm - 7:15pm.
This year practices for all age groups will be held at the Madison Athletic Fields in
Madison (formerly Bayley Ellard). For the convenience of all involved all age groups
practice and play matches at the same time & same place. Matches are played in various
towns on Saturday mornings from 9:00am- 12:00pm with the annual Morris Youth
Rugby Festival held in Chester on July 23rd.
Come out and join the more than 1,000 young players from other Morris County area
towns who will take the field this summer! For more information as well as online
registration go to: www.morristownrugby.com
It’s official! A Guinness World Record:
The 2009 Morris Youth Rugby Festival, Chester, NJ - Worlds Largest Youth Rugby Tournament
Congrats to all the Players and Participants!
