Our Hopes and Dreams
We are doing our best to accommodate the needs of schools/3rd Grade teachers
throughout the district. We have already been in a few classrooms and libraries
across the district (assisting with login, website usage, Google Docs, etc.) We are
available to come into any classrooms if/when needed. This can be to assist with
lessons being taught, introduce or observe technology lessons, or help with logins.
Also, if you have lessons, apps or websites that you have used in the past and are
willing to share, we will be glad to include them in these newsletters. Please let us
know if there are topics or apps you would like us to research or subjects on which
to focus our efforts.

defend it and then sign it into law.

Executive Command This game has students carrying out the duties of the Presidency (signing bills into laws, diplomacy, wartime
decisions).

Missing Animal News Report (idea for using an iPad)
We wanted a project that would hold the students’ interest after the
completion of a novel study. Students read a variety of books from the animal genre. They were told to pretend that one of the animal characters
from their story went missing. They were to create the circumstances
surrounding the disappearance. The students were given a “Missing Animal
Report” to complete. This was the rough draft for a poster that would
hang behind their news desk. (We used the copy machine to enlarge the
poster onto construction paper).
The students were then instructed to create a script for their newscast. Their news report needed to be written down and practiced a few
times. We then used the iPad to record the newscast and watched them
later in the week.

iPad Tech Tips
Have you ever wanted your students to have access to a certain website on
the iPad, but didn’t want them to search for it? You can find websites and
then create a direct link from your home screen. This gives the students
immediate access to the “approved” link!
STEP 1
STEP 2
“I would like the students to research the
puffin during Nights of the Pufflings. I
found a website (through Safari on the iPad)
for them to use, and want to give them immediate access.”
Choose “Add to Home Screen”.
Find a website and click on the “Upload” symbol.
