Cisco Video Surveillance Manager (VSM) 7
Services Portfolio
To ensure customer success with the Cisco® Video Surveillance Manager 7 (VSM 7)
solution, Cisco provides a comprehensive suite of services designed specifically for
VSM 7 based on the Cisco Services Lifecycle framework. These services are available
from Cisco through Authorized Cisco Advanced Technology Program (ATP) Partners.
Virtualized VSM 7 Planning and Design Service
In alignment with this launch, the following new services will be available across the
Services Lifecycle Phases of plan, build, and manage (see Figure 1). The scope of this
document is to highlight the new services available for VSM 7.
The Virtualized VSM 7 Plan and Design Service provides solution design,
implementation planning, and deployment support for VSM 7 virtualized on the VMware
ESXi hypervisor and the Cisco UCS B, C, and E-series platform infrastructures.
This service is targeted to customers looking to deploy new IP video surveillance
infrastructure, including media endpoints (IP cameras and encoders), media clients
(VSM client workstations) and Cisco UCS platform infrastructure.

The VSM 7 Migration Service provides implementation planning and deployment
support for customers migrating from VSM 6.x to VSM 7, either on the Multi Services
Platform (MSP) or Cisco UCS® platforms.
The service offers detailed planning and design guidance based on best practices
and technical expertise to accelerate success of the migration efforts, as well as to
mitigate risk and application downtime. Using Cisco products and migration expertise,
customers can lower their total cost of ownership; minimize overall risk to deploy
new technologies in the network; and increase their likelihood of optimal design for
business agility. Cisco provides a cost-effective migration methodology that is flexible
to respond to each customer’s unique requirements.
VSM 7 Network Readiness Assessment Service
VSM 7 Mentored Install Services
Network infrastructure is a critical factor to the success of a VSM 7 deployment. The
Cisco VSM 7 Network Readiness Assessment (NRA) Service provides customers with
assurance of their current network infrastructure’s ability to transport IP video surveillance
traffic prior to deployment of the Cisco IP Video Surveillance solution. The assessment
can be carried out on both medianet- and non-medianet-enabled environments. The
results of the NRA provide a performance baseline of the current network infrastructure.
Based on the outcomes, customers can identify potential areas of the network that may
require attention prior to or during the solution deployment process.
The VSM 7 Mentored Install Service provides Physical Security ATP partners with
mentoring and support in the planning, design, implementation, and migration of VSM
7 solutions. The mentoring activities are agreed upon prior to each engagement.
This service helps partners reduce risks when designing and deploying advanced
and complex IP video surveillance solutions for end customers. The Mentored Install
Services are usually delivered in three phases:
• Phase 1 (Cisco-Led): This phase will be Cisco led where the deliverables and
entire project responsibility will be on the Cisco team. The partner will take part
in all phases of the service: the partner engineer’s role will be targeted toward
observation and learning in order to gain an understanding of the technology and
the implementation methodology.

• Phase 2 (Shared Responsibility): This phase is jointly led by Cisco and partners.
Cisco will provide templates, attend meetings, assist in all phases of the project,
and provide guidance and technical expertise. The partner will work with a Cisco
engineer to gather information, create designs, implement the solution, and mentor
the customer. This phase typically requires a mix of onsite and remote support.
• Phase 3 (Partner-Led): Cisco will provide support and guidance. The partner will
be able to make use of the Cisco templates and information gained from the prior
phases to successfully complete the project. In this phase, Cisco will act as a
subject matter expert. The project deliverables will be produced by the partner and
Cisco will validate and review them.
VSM 7 System Management and Instrumentation Service
The VSM 7 Systems Management and Instrumentation Service provides customers
with design guidance, performance engineering, and optimization for effective
monitoring and management of the deployed IP video surveillance solution. This
service takes full advantage of the benefits of Medianet and new or existing
network management systems to provide detailed network visibility and advanced
troubleshooting capabilities for IP video traffic. It works to ensure the highest quality of
experience for end-users of the solution.
