I. OVERVIEW
Each of our elementary schools have a vibrant media center serving the students and staff. At the
K-3 level, students visit the media center once a week for scheduled instruction, and as needed for
other research or book seeking purposes. Students in 4th and 5th grades do not have a weekly
scheduled media center time, but rather utilize the center for book seeking as needed and for
research opportunities with their classroom teachers.
The purpose of this curriculum is to act as a framework for instructing students to be seekers and
users of information and ideas. The areas of instruction set forth in this curriculum guide are based
on the National Information Literacy Standards for Student Learning developed by the American
Association of School Librarians (AASL).
II. GOALS (Linked to American Association of School Librarians)
