Date: July 2, 2008 To: Crystal Abba, Assistant Vice Chancellor From: Maria C. Sheehan, President Subject: Budget Reduction ___________________________________________________________________________________ To meet the required reduction level, Truckee Meadows Community College will experience unprecedented hardships. Employee Direct Impact • The college workforce was reduced by 27 positions when employees chose to exercise the buyout option: o Eight administrative faculty o Seven academic faculty o 12 classified employees • There are 46 vacant and frozen positions o 22 administrative faculty o 23 classified employees o One temporary academic faculty • Student employee positions have also been eliminated as departmental operating budgets were cut. Facilities • Custodial services and the college’ ability to complete special projects on campus will be severely limited. Course Limits • General education courses—English, math and science—will be reduced which directly impacts our students ability to graduate or transfer to a university. The allied health programs will be especially hurt by these measures. Administration • As administrators are required to wear multiple hats, student and staff access to these leaders will be severely impacted. Student Success • Because financial aid, outreach and recruitment will be limited, student enrollment numbers will fall and student retention will be in jeopardy.
