Accurately mount radiographs. e. Properly interpret radiographs Outcome #2: Knowledge – The student will be able to discuss, define, identify and/or explain the following: a.Terminology associated with dental radiography. b.Biological effects of exposure to radiation. c. Fundamentals of: x-ray Assessment Measures Assessment Results Use of Results Effect on Program, Discipline or Course Based on the results of this assessment, will you revise your outcomes? If so, please summarize how and why in the boxes below. In the boxes below, summarize the methods used to assess program, discipline, or course outcomes during the last year. In the boxes below, summarize the results of your assessment activities during the last year. In the boxes below, summarize how you are or how you plan to use the results to improve student learning. Students will demonstrate their understanding of radiographic procedures by completing laboratory exercises and exams germane to the topic that will be scored by the instructor according to predetermined rubrics distributed to students prior to the lab and/or exam Students satisfactorily completed four sets of bitewing radiographs, four sets of full mouth radiographs, and laboratory exercises designed to measure comprehension and understanding. Will use online resources (through Angel) to present material and resources to enhance learning. This will contribute to more student participation in classroom discussions regarding the clinical application of the information presented. No - This is course material that is necessary for continuation in the clinical portion of this program and for eventual passage of the national board licensing examination for dental hygiene Students will demonstrate their knowledge through written and practical exams. Instructors will evaluate student answers on weekly quizzes, a midterm exam, and a comprehensive final exam to measure retention of information. Students completed 10 quizzes, a midterm, and a final with a score of 75% or higher. Conduct regular meetings with lab and lecture instructors to better coordinate lecture and lab activities. Rewrite and update exams to better reflect current information and national board exam format. See above production, methods of film exposure, processing methods, radiographic analysis and interpretation, and safety procedures. d. Legal aspects of dental radiography. e. Safety factors and radiation protection for patient and operator. Outcome #3 Application – The student will: a. Understand the importance of thorough patient assessment prior to radiographic procedures. b. Value the importance of perfecting techniques that will require the least exposure and the greatest interpretive value. c. Understand the importance of processing techniques to achieve a quality finished product. d. Understand the importance of patient instruction regarding radiographic procedures. Students will demonstrate their ability to apply these principles by successful completion of required clinical radiology evaluations. Instructors will evaluate student performance using standard, published rubrics. Students are required to complete 14 sets of radiographs in each semester of their clinical rotation. They are graded and receive feedback. They must pass each evaluation at 80%. Students will be required to receive more instruction and feedback during their clinical radiology rotation. This will contribute to more complete hands-on learning. This outcome could be emphasized by requiring this instruction to be noted on the grading form.
