Outcome #1:
Students will be able to
show proficiency with
Microsoft Word by
editing documents and
customizing Word,
creating templates, tables
and lists.
Students will demonstrate
proficiency by creating and
editing documents,
templates, tables and lists and
customizing the features of
Microsoft Word through
written exams and hands-on
assignments that will be
evaluated using pre-specified
criteria.
Since students score higher on the
proficiency exam than on the
objective exam, study guides and
lesson outlines will be posted for
each lesson. This will aid students
in retaining relevant information.
No, outcomes will remain the
same. More student study aids
will be available.
Outcome #2:
Students will be able to
use the features of
Microsoft Word to add
pictures and shapes to
documents, work with
captions, and add
navigation tools to
documents.
Students will demonstrate
proficiency by adding these
features to documents in
hands-on assignments and
written exams. These will be
evaluated using predefined
criteria.

exams. Students’ scores
were about equal on
homework and weekly
quizzes.

weekly quizzes.
Study guides and lesson outlines
will be posted for each lesson
along with a PowerPoint
presentation stepping students

Outcome #3
Students will be able to
show proficiency with
Microsoft Word by
creating tables of content
and bibliographies,
performing mail merges
and securing documents.
Students will demonstrate
these skills through written
exams and hands-on
assignments that will be
evaluated using
predetermined grading
rubrics.
Students averaged 78%
creating tables of content
and performing mail
merges. Students’ scores
were approximately 8%
greater on the proficiency
exams than the multiple
choice exams. Students’
scores were about equal on
homework and weekly
quizzes.
Since students score higher on the
proficiency exam than on the
objective exam, study guides and
lesson outlines will be posted for
each lesson. Matching definitions
and fill-in study material might be
introduced since the concepts
covered are usually new to
students. This will aid students in
retaining relevant information.
