I like today’s quote (well, I like them all, or I wouldn’t use them). Each time we take a test in class, we
will always go over the test results together when I return them to the students. We can see where the
mistakes happened, and we can discuss how to possibly avoid similar mistakes in the future. Plus, it
can fill in those gaps from something that might not have been clear during the lessons. The lessons
don’t end just because the test is over. Speaking of tests, the fall session of MAPS testing has been
completed. You will be getting the results sometime in the near future. The students will take them
again in the spring to measure their growth
This week’s Ask Me About...
… It was a money week in math as we worked to “Spend a Million” and played “The Shopping Game” on the
afternoons we weren’t MAP testing. It’s not so easy to spend a million!
… Carbon printing – another technique to discover hidden patterns
… BIG wipe-off desk maps in social studies to learn map skills.
… “Tomas and the Library Lady” – where reading can take you (hint: think imagination!).
… Simple Subjects – the one word (or proper noun) that is the main part of the complete subject.
… Regions and Landforms – SS Chapter 1, lesson 1. We learned how to use an SQR to get started with
our learning of the lesson.
… MAPS tests (Reading and Math)
… Hook Tag – a fun way to release some energy stored up during testing.
... 5 minute multiplication – our 4th try. Am I still moving up?
… Time for Kids – completing what we started last week on “The Answers” issue.
… The Witches by Roald Dahl – one small mouse versus 84 witches. How did he triumph?
… Person of the Week – Emily S. – Future Olympic gymnast? She hopes so!
